About Onslow County Community Outreach Soup Kitchen
Food insecurity is a defined reality for hundreds of thousands of hard working Americans who still cannot keep food on the table. It’s affecting more than just the families living at or below the poverty line. Addressing hunger and malnutrition is the right thing to do and is a smart investment.
The 2012 Map the Meal Gap Survey for Onslow County found 30,130 food insecure people; a 17% food insecure rate. Hunger and poverty often go hand in hand, but poverty is not the ultimate determinant of food insecurity. People living slightly above the poverty line are often at risk of hunger as well
The Soup Kitchen is a vital resource toward helping Onslow County become a healthy, food secure community. Activities are:
- Lunch Meals
- Mobile Soup Kitchen
- Monthly Food Bank
- Support to Church Food Pantries
The Soup Kitchen will help 1,700 persons this year. Volunteers contribute over 18,000 hours.
Donations of food gas cards, paper products and cleaning supplies always needed. Cash donations can be designated for the Soup Kitchen.
Onslow Community Outreach is a 501c3 nonprofit. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
The Soup Kitchen is a collaborative partner with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Support is received from United Way Onslow.
